It is nothing new to this community being attacked for the faith they have. It is continuously being attacked behind the vibrant title of “Freedom of Speech and Expression”. Some have problem with the dress Muslim women wear, some have the problem with the beard, and some hate them for the misconception they have! Problems galore!
Right to Freedom of Speech does not mean Freedom to Abuse, Slander, or Attack on the dignity of any person or faith. Right to Dignity is far beyond than the Right to Freedom and Expression.
Whenever anyone has some problems, a sensible person would go to the root cause of the problem and get solutions easily.
The Times of India reported “Hate crime statistics from police forces in 2011/2012 show that there were 35,816 race hate crimes in the year with 1,621 faith hate crimes being recorded.” More than half of the incidents were linked with the organization called English Defense League (EDL).
“Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.”
Martin Luther King, Jr.
EDL thinks that Muslim community has failed to deal with extremism in their minds. I ask EDL what is the definition of “Extremism”? Your definition of “extremism” may not be the same as others. If you cannot win an argument with a Muslim about his faith, you call him “an extremist”! If you cannot discuss or debate the issues, you resolve it to killings and think it as a solution.
As I said before, if you have any issues go back to the source. Before saying “Islam has been at war with its neighbors since its inception.” You should have checked up Islam and its teachings closely with open mind and heart. I don’t think EDL committee has ever read the Qur’an (Koran), Muslim’s holy book, cover to cover. The Qur’an clearly says “Thus, We have made you a balanced (and upright) nation” (2:143). And the Prophet of Islam advised his followers to be balanced in their religion and said: “Never be extreme regarding religion. Many nations have been destroyed before you only because of extremism in religion,” (Nasai 3057)
EDL further says: “It is ridiculous to claim that there is nothing Islamic about Islamic extremism.” Islam and Extremism are two opposites. In fact, Islam is the middle and balanced path as quoted in the above verse of the Qur’an as well as the advice of the Prophet of Islam.
I say, if EDL has not read the Qur’an, they are not ELIGIBLE to comment on matters relating to Islam! A doctor cannot deal with his patients unless he knows his case history, similarly EDL can simply not claim what it doesn’t know!
George Bernard Shaw rightly said “Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance.” And the result is in front of us. Muslims are being attacked less of ignorance and more of false knowledge.
If you don’t believe in a particular belief of a certain community, you should have patience enough to talk to them about the matter in a more just manner. I don’t believe in scratching each other’s back. I follow your way and you follow mine. It is hypocrisy, because the beliefs of one community contradict the other. It is impossible to follow everything. So the best solution is tolerance towards others beliefs. We should learn to live with our differences and make the people aware of what wrong they are doing, in the most peaceful manner!
